Footwear: Proper footwear should be worn in class. New dancers may wear black or white athletic socks to their first two months of classes but are expected to have appropriate Irish dance socks and soft shoes to wear by the start of their third month of classes. Hard shoes are not required until a dancer reaches the Intermediate Level. Please see the Shoes and Uniforms page for information on where you can purchase these items

Performance Costume:
Each new dancer will wear a Heartland Irish Dancers school costume at performances and competitions. This includes a combination of a black leotard and embroidered skirt/ sash for girls and a dress shirt, dress pants and embroidered cummerbund/ vest for boys. Outdoor performances and parades may require additional layers depending on the weather. There is a less formal performance outfit option email HID for more info.
Solo Costume:
A Solo Costume is a dress or vest where the design and colors are chosen by the dancer and approved by the teacher.
Requirements for competitive dancers to earn a solo costume: A dancer must place in the top three of a Novice level hard shoe dance and a Novice level soft shoe dance
Requirements for non-competitive dancers to earn a solo costume: A dancer must learn and master two steps of the slow speed treble jig and slow speed hornpipe.

School Closings: The Heartland Irish Dancers will follow the local school district when canceling classes. If there are an excessive amount of missed days due to snow or other inclement weather conditions, makeup classes will be offered.
Missed and Makeup Lessons: If you are going to miss a class and you know in advance, please email HID. You will not receive a refund for a missed class; however you may make up the class with the approval of your instructor. If you miss due to prolonged illness, severe injury or personal emergency your billing will be adjusted accordingly. Written documentation may be required and any change in billing will begin the day HID is notified.
Registration Procedures: All parents/legal guardians and adult students must read and sign a completed Registration Form containing consent and release clause. This must be on file with HID before participation will be granted. A $20 registration fee per dancer ($40 family max) is also required once a year.
Conduct Expectations: Students and parents will dress and conduct themselves in an appropriate manner while representing Heartland Irish Dancers in any capacity (at class, performances, community engagements, etc.) The use of foul language and disrespect for others will not be tolerated. Any conduct deemed inappropriate by HID will not be tolerated. Any student or family who fails to meet these standards will be asked to leave HID.
Online Classes: Dancers may register for a weekly class or request a private lesson via Zoom. Parents are required to be present during these Zoom lessons to maintain the safety of their dancers when the instructor is teaching remotely.
Parental Responsibilities: It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to be aware of special dates and schedules of any upcoming events. HID will make every effort to communicate information through handouts at class, parent emails, social media and e-newsletters. It is the parent's responsibility to regularly check their child's dance bag and their own email to make sure they are up to date on HID events and info.
Care of Students: Heartland Irish Dancers is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Dancers should not be left at the the studio unattended for an excessive time before or after their class.
Respect for the Studio Space: The Heartland Irish Dancers are lucky enough to rent or use space from local businesses including Queen of the Holy Rosary-Wea, The View Wellness Center and The Harrisonville Community Center. We ask that you show respect to all instructors, students and families as well as the studio itself. Please, pick up after yourself and be kind to those around you!
Tuition Policy: Each of our locations has a slightly different tuition payment procedure. These are outlined below...
Belton, MO Location- Families will be sent a monthly invoice from HID. These can be paid through the Wave Invoicing App or with Check or Cash at the first class of each month.
Harrisonville, MO Location- Families will need to pay for 6 week sessions at the front desk of the Harrisonville Community Center. Auto payments are not an option, instead you must pay at the beginning of each session
Cleveland, MO/ Bucyrus, KS Location- Families will be sent a monthly invoice from HID. These can be paid through the Wave Invoicing App or with Check or Cash at the first class of each month.
Summer classes, camps, private lessons, and home school co-op classes have different tuition rates. Contact HID for more info on pricing for these classes. If financial assistance or a different payment plan is needed please contact HID to confidentially set up the special arrangements.
