Class Descriptions
Please note: all classes are not currently offered. You may email HID if you are interested in a class listed below that is not currently listed on our schedule.
Grade School Irish Dance Club or Elective- Children, Kindergarten through 8th grade, are introduced to the fundamental solo and group dance movements.
Pre Beginner- Children ages 3-4 will be introduced to Irish dance through fun dance games and exercises. This class will focus on developing the motor planning, gross motor and other basic skills necessary to transition to the beginner Irish Step Dance class.
Beginner Level- Children ages 5 and up will be introduced to basic Irish step dance skills and movements, learn two steps of the four main light shoe dances, and will also work on music recognition skills.
Intermediate Level- Dancers who have mastered the steps and skills in the beginner class will progress to this class where they will be introduced to hard shoe movements and dances, learn more advanced soft shoe movements and continue to work on technique.
Novice Level- Dancers who have mastered the steps and skills in the intermediate class will progress to this class where they will begin to put the advanced soft shoe movements into more advanced soft shoe steps while continuing to perfect their hard shoe dances as well.
Advanced Level- Dancers who have mastered the steps and skills in the novice class will progress to this class where they will begin to learn steps to slower music that can fit more complex movements and rhythms.
Ceili & Performance Prep- Children ages 8 and up that have completed or are currently enrolled in one of the solo step dance classes may enroll in this class. Dancers will learn traditional ceili (group) dances as well as modern group numbers for performances.
Adult Irish Step Dance- Those who are older teens to adults may enroll in this class to learn basic dance skills and movements, two steps of the four main light shoe dances, as well as traditional ceili (group) dances.
Home School Irish Step Dance Program- Dancers with daytime availability are invited to enroll in one of these classes. Contact us if your co-op is interested in offering a weekly Irish dance class!
Drills and Conditioning- Since repetition is a key component to mastering skills and movements a class that focuses on drills and strengthening stretches and exercise is perfect for dancers who want to take their dancing to the next level. Open to dancers in the intermediate or advanced levels.
